Choose a Sea-Doo gel coat repair kit by original color identification and surface material. Compare kit contents and prepare the right repair questions.
Identify the surface and the original color
Start a small cosmetic repair by identifying what surface you are repairing and its original finish. A gel coat repair product is not a universal treatment for every painted or plastic panel on a watercraft. Send GT40 the surface material, color identification and close photos of the damaged area when those details are uncertain.
Record the year and model, but also note previous repainting or repairs. An older repair can change the finish that is now visible, so the original factory color name is only part of the matching process.
Compare named colors, not screen swatches
GT40 lists separate colors including Viper Red, Manta Green, Black, Anthracite, Riviera Blue and several yellow finishes. Those are individual product identities. A nearby color in the catalog is not a substitute for the specified finish.
Lighting, photography and screen settings change how a color appears. Use product photos to recognize the packaging and contents; they cannot confirm an exact match to your ski. Weathering and prior refinishing should also be discussed before ordering.
Review the supplied materials
The Viper Red, Manta Green and Black listings identify gel coat, hardener and 250-, 400- and 800-grit sandpaper. The White kit lists gel coat, hardener, sandpaper and a mixing stick. Check the individual listing rather than assuming all colors have an identical packing list.
Kit size and listed supplies describe the purchase. They do not establish how much damage can be repaired or whether a damaged area is cosmetic rather than structural.
Get the application instructions before starting
Request the current preparation, mixing, application and curing instructions for the supplied material. Use those instructions for the actual kit; do not borrow a mixing ratio or cure time from another color, brand or repair product.
