PCM GT40 Alternator: Complete Kit or Separate Unit?
Compare the PCM GT40 95-amp alternator and wiring-harness kit. Check pulley reuse, part numbers and mounting before choosing your replacement.
Choose the repair before choosing the kit
An alternator supplies electrical power while the engine is running. When replacing one, identify the installed unit and the reason for the repair before deciding whether you need an alternator alone or a kit with supporting wiring. A charging symptom does not, by itself, establish that the alternator is the failed component.
Collect the engine identification, current alternator label and clear photos of the pulley, belt path, mounting points and electrical connections. These give GT40 a practical basis for comparing the existing installation with the replacement listing.
What distinguishes the 95-amp listings
The PCM GT40 5.8 95-amp alternator and the 95-amp alternator kit have separate product pages. The kit listing identifies a wiring harness with plug. Both listings require reuse of the existing alternator pulley, so the pulley and its condition remain part of the selection check.
Confirm which mounting and wiring components your installation needs. Do not assume a kit includes a pulley, every fastener or an adapter simply because those parts would be useful to your repair.
Keep the GT-4648 upgrade listing separate
GT40 also lists an alternator upgrade kit under catalog reference GT-4648. Its output rating and packing list require confirmation. The 95-amp rating of a neighboring product is not the specification of this kit.
The correct comparison is the exact product identity and supplied components, not just the GT40 engine name. Where a part number is available, include it in your inquiry along with the engine and connection photos.
Before fitting the replacement
Obtain the instructions for the selected part and engine installation. Resolve pulley, belt alignment, mounting and wiring questions before work starts. Keep the old part available for identification until the replacement has been matched.
